Does Hypnotherapy Work Better than CBT Therapy?

Now that hypnosis has become more accepted and respectable as a form of mental health therapy, many experts are beginning to question whether using hypnotherapy leads to faster, more effective results than traditional counseling and psychotherapy.

There are a few reasons why hypnotherapy may work better for certain personality types and mental health challenges.

Most People Have Short Attention Spans

Unfortunately, technology has led many people to become addicted to quick results with minimal effort.

This short attention span makes it extremely difficult for many therapy patients to engage in deep, analytical thinking. Many people are simply unwilling to do the mental work that is necessary in traditional therapy.

There are certain problems that require us to access our hidden thought patterns, and this kind of focus is easier when we are in a hypnotic trance than if we are fully awake and alert.

Many People Have More Than One Irrational Belief Affecting Them

Trying to rationally challenge our limiting beliefs may be almost impossible if we are being impacted by dozens of different beliefs and distorted thinking patterns.

In these cases, hypnosis helps to bypass an overactive mind, and directly interrupt our negative subconscious habits.

Highly Emotional Patients are Already Hypnotized

People suffering from strong emotions, such as rage, are already living in a highly focused, hypnotic state. They most likely won’t respond to rational questions and exercises.

This makes hypnosis more effective by allowing therapists to make direct statements to patients’ subconscious minds, while they focus on their anger.

Hypnotherapy helps people to lower the intensity of their emotional reactions, before they consider doing therapy to confront their distorted thinking patterns.

Real Change Takes Place at a Subconscious Level

As we learn how much of our thinking and behavior takes place at a subconscious level, the power of hypnotherapy is gaining more acceptance among mental health professionals.

The ability of hypnotherapists to directly work on complex subconscious thinking patterns allows them to deal more effectively with challenging issues.

When dealing with highly reactive people, traditional therapy should only be used once the intensity of their emotional responses has been brought under control.

This is where hypnotherapy can be the most effective.
